Hey there!
We're finally witnessing the results of all the hard work that we've invested into our yard these past few weeks. The grass is green and growing nicely, all those bald spots that we had on the lawn at the end of winter are almost completely covered, and the plants are growing nicely with many of them full of flowers.
Our job right now is keeping the yard looking good, and that mainly consist of cutting the grass and trimming the beds and borders.
Taking care of the yard is a team effort in our household, the
mister cuts the grass, although my teen boy is the one in charge of mid-week trims. They both love how easy is to do that job with the RYOBI 40V Lithium Brushless Lawn Mower. No gas to deal with, a powerful, self-propelled and light-weighted machine that does a great job cutting the grass.

I always use a string trimmer for this task. I was using the Ryobi One+ 18-V the past couple of years, but here comes an upgrade to this trimming job with the new RYOBI 40-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Attachment Capable String Trimmer, with a 4.0 Ah battery and charger.
Assembling it was very simple, specially because the mister did it! :D
Guys, this string trimmer is powerful! It uses a 40-Volt battery, the same type we use to operate the lawn mower. For us, this works like a charm, but if you're new to the 40-Volt and you only use the batteries on the One+ system, this might be an inconvenience.
Operating the trimmer with this powerful 40-Volt battery was a bit tiresome for me. My right hand felt the weight of that battery. Now, keep in mind I'm a petite person. It would be awesome if it came with a holding strap to help support its weight.
HOW TO GIVE YOUR BEDS AND BORDERS A SHARP EDGE
In one of my previous posts about yard-work, I showed you how to create the edge on this flower bed in our front yard.
You can use one of those half-moon edgers, but I used what I had at hand, a flat edge shovel.
Mark a line you want to follow, you can even use a water hose as a line to follow. Then, using your edger, dig straight down onto the ground, removing that piece of grass/dirt you just dug.
Continue all along that line. I already had a line, I was just giving it a sharper edge.
After adding mulch this is how it looked:
However, with the grass growing that nicely, that line didn't look sharp after mowing the lawn and that's when the Ryobi string trimmer is needed.
For this type of bed I do two passes with the trimmer, I first go cutting the height of the grass on that edge. I call it the horizontal trim, the trimmer head is flat above the grass.
The second pass is done on the vertical, all along that edge, trimming those grass blades that stick out onto the flower bed. Changing the trimmer to a horizontal or vertical position is easily done by simple rotating the handle.
This is my easy way to keep this sharp line. ;)
However, that wasn't my only task. I also went all along the fence, deck and around the house, trimming those long grasses that didn't get trimmed with the lawn mower.
You can see the difference, here outside this flower bed.
Around the deck.
And around those flower pots.

ReplyDeleteI like the blower and the straight shaft edger!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Love all you do. Thank you for this raffle.
ReplyDeleteI bought a Ryobi 40 volt a few weeks ago. It works great but I agree that it would be nice if there was a strap to distribute the weight better. Holding it is a good arm workout but that also cuts down on how long I can use it before I'm worn out!
ReplyDeleteYour yard looks great! My favorite attachments would be the edger and hedge trimmer. I currently have corded versions of each and I'm always afraid I'm going to cut accidentally cut the power cord. A Ryobi 40V cordless trimmer with different attachments would be a dream come true.
ReplyDeleteLove this! The edger and pole saw would definitely get a workout at my home!
ReplyDeleteI think I would like the pole saw and edger attachments. I have a ryobi gas backpack blower that works well.
