Well, the latest makeover to my little kitchen is finally DONE, my friends!
I've been sporting a big smile each time I set foot in here. I keep saying to myself: Oh, the power of paint!
That's true, this kitchen makeover was a plain and simple paint makeover. I love how it instantly brought new life to a tired kitchen.
Let me show you around...

The cabinets were painted BM - White Dove - Advance - Satin finish
The range hood and island were painted: BM Ashland Slate - Advance - Satin finishRe-painting the kitchen cabinets was almost the same process as when I painted the stained cabinets for the first time, just a tiny bit easier. But, you can read everything about that process right HERE.
First Makeover | Second Makeover |
To really appreciate the final result, you have to go back to the starting point. The builder's grade kitchen got a big makeover seven years ago. I kept the same layout, but the cabinets and island were spruced up with moldings and paint.
Almost three years ago, the island got a new color and the roman shade got covered with a piece of fabric, and whoa, that was a big change!
However, seven years of daily use put a lot of stress on the cabinet's paint treatment. They needed a fresh coat of paint.
Well, that's what I did besides adding some new decorative elements, like the window shade.
The relaxed roman shade was one of the last projects I tackled. The fabric I used: Eaton Alana Navy. I bought it at Jo-Ann fabrics. I thought it was going to be a difficult project, but thanks to the wonderful tutorial shared by Kristi right HERE. I only spent a full afternoon making this shade.
I'm going through a white and blue crush at the moment. As soon as I spotted these little condiment containers at Homegoods I had to have them, they're so cute!
I gave the kitchen a very neutral color scheme, and that's going to give me the perfect canvas to incorporate colorful accessories, given that I like to change my décor with the seasons.
| Range Hood Makeover | Area Rug | Plate Rack | Pendant Light | |
| Marble Mug Rack | Moscow Mule Mugs | RaeDunn Mugs | |
The added wooden band on the lower part of the hood ties up with the other wooden elements, not only in the kitchen but also in the contiguous dining room/office.
Some more white and blue accent pieces on the open shelves, plus some touches of copper for good measure. ;)
| Kitchen Table Set | Over the table pendant light | Curtains - similar | |
Here, is the view from the breakfast nook. Oh, I'm so happy with new the light fixtures! These were very economical lights. I'm not going to feel guilty if I change them shortly. ;)
| Sink Cabinet Organization | Glass jars | School House Ceiling Light | |
Throughout the years I've brought storage and organization to most of my kitchen. This time the one cabinet that was in dear need of some order was the one under the kitchen sink. I'm delighted with the way it looks and operates right now.
| Cabinet Pulls | Cabinet Knobs | |
One element that you can easily update in your kitchen is the hardware. Brand new knobs and pulls are easy to change, they had the power to give your kitchen a totally new look on its own!
I leave you with this, the kitchen with the office space in the far end. They are now more in tune with each other. ;)
So, if you're still living with a dated kitchen and want to bring change to it, my recommendation for you is to go the painting route, if you don't mind a week of labor.
Prepare yourself with the right tools and products and give it a go. It's totally worth it!

It looks beautiful! Good job with all your selections. I must say that it is actually very similar to our own kitchen with white cabinets and a gray island. I love blue and white dishes as well and even have that same Basil jar. I dry my basil leaves in the microwave during the summer and keep the little jar full of freshly dried basil.

Thanks so much, Sue!! It's so good to know I have a decor twin! 😀 I'm going to do that with the basil leaves. Last year I save them in the fridge, but I didn't like how they turned out. Drying them sounds like a better option. 👍
DeleteWow - it was beautiful before but now it's truly stunning! That photo with the table and island should be on the cover of a magazine! What a gorgeous job and I love the colors and new window treatment.

You truly made my day! Thanks so much my friend! 💕
DeleteOh Cristina, this is beautiful!! You really do amaze me. The carpentry and painting you do along with the perfect decor turns out beautifully every time. I think you'll be happy with your kitchen for a long time.
ReplyDeleteStacey, I do hope so! :D That's why I kept the main structures as neutral as possible, I'll be playing with colorful accessories. Thanks so much for your always kind words. 😘
DeleteIt looks beautiful! I love the way you styled it too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen!!
DeleteOh my word, it is absolutely gorgeous. I love it all.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much dear Marty!!
DeleteI'm now ready to start the Christmas decorating for our home tour! So exciting! :)
Wow - you are amazing!! I loved your first kitchen makeover, and then your second, but this is my favorite! The White Dove brightens it up so much and I love the contrast of the grey island and hood! And I can't believe you made that roman shade - is there anything you can't do?!!
ReplyDeleteHehe Thanks Lisa! If you follow Kristi's detailed tutorial on how to make that shade, you're gonna look like a professional seamstress in no time! :D
DeleteYou have transformed this into a beautiful kitchen :) Your layout is very similar to mine. We want to do an upgrade to our kitchen soon! Can u please tell me what kind of counters you have and are you happy with them? Do they show a lot of dust? Love everything you do!
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren, thank you so much! Those are quartz countertops, SileStone Yukon Blanco & Ebony Pearl. I've been living with them since the first makeover and their quality is absolutely the best. I have no complaints about them. The white one on the kitchen island shows every single bit of dust or whatever is on it, while the black one disguises things in a better way. I'm still in love with both surfaces.
DeleteI love your latest kitchen makeover. I so agree with you that paint can have such a huge impact. Love the grey island and those stools look so perfect. Great job.
ReplyDeleteLove every single detail of your kitchen makeover! It's soft and neutral, but has such a colorful impact. What a great balance for your space. Always love your work! You're just the best. ~~ susie from The Chelsea Project
ReplyDeleteSo many gorgeous details in your kitchen makeover! I love the contrasting grey paint. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Cristina! Love the new stove hood and the paint colors you chose. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new space.
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Dream kitchen right here!!
ReplyDeleteStunning. No other words necessary.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful kitchen! Did you repaint your cabinets white dove after the Navajo white? I'm trying to find a white paint color that is not too stark or warm.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, the Navajo white, which I think has a yellowish undertone, was replaced by BM White Dove, which I really love. I've been using all around the house. I think you would love it too.
DeleteThanks so much for the quick reply!! I found the post were you repainted the cabinets (https://www.remodelandolacasa.com/2017/10/rptnkcb.html). I love the lighter color. Just removed my cabinets and about to prime!
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen and your accent!
ReplyDeleteAww thanks so much, Jana! You just made my evening. 😘
