My travels: Colonial Williamsburg

white little house with lady in the front door - Colonial Williamsburg

Hi friends,

This week I had the privilege to visit Colonial Williamsburg again after more than 15 years. This time with my entire family and needless to say, it was one of our favorite destinations.

We spent an entire day enjoying the historic exhibits, seeing and interacting with the people in character, the carriages, the colonial food and wines, and of course the architecture.

I'm going to let the pictures do all the talking. Here are some of the structures that caught my eye.

    1. Yes Marty, this is definitely a place you need to add to your bucket list. So much history in one place!

  2. Yes, we have been to Williamsburg! I love the gardens, and the espaliered brick walls within! The brick bridges leading into are also another favorite of mine......very stately, though simple too. I hope our history is never wiped away. I read a very disturbing and sad article at the end of June on Williamsburg Foundation losing so much money. They are going to begin outsourcing jobs they once handled (mostly the retail, facilities and real estate mgt). They attribute losses to low attendance, lack of return of investment leading up to Jamestown 400th improvements, and less American history being taught in schools!! Aggghh! Makes me want to scream!

    1. Oh Rita, I hope they can save money by doing all those changes while still providing the jobs to all those workers that have been with them for years. Colonial Williamsburg is like walking into an animated history book! I would hate to see it go.
I didn't have time to visit the gardens. :( There was a big afternoon thunderstorm that kept us inside. Well, we took the opportunity to tour the governor's palace and the capitol. We stayed there only one day which was not enough for all that there's to see and do in there.
We're are already planning our next year's trip. ;)

  3. I visited about 14 years ago. The first time I took my daughter and one day wasn't enough time, so I went several years later and stayed for two days. I'm a Colonial history/Revolutionary War buff and I remember walking into Williamsburg and feeling like I'd walked into a history book. Every American should visit.

    1. That's SO true, Nancy! There were so many activities/places we missed. I like history, but it's perhaps my daughter, the one that enjoyed this trip the most. She could've stayed in there for a whole week, asking questions and just learning from so many angles. Oh, we also missed the court session, that's on our to do list next time.
