My sister-in-law threw a Going Away Party to my niece a week ago. It's a bittersweet moment because, on the one hand, we're incredibly excited and proud of all that this girl has accomplished so far in her life. On the other hand, it's a bit scary because it's the first time she will live far away from home.
She's moving away from here, Maryland, to an apartment in California with a new job. A huge milestone in her life.
The party was a last-minute decision, and of course, I was so glad to help with the decor and some of the food.
Below, you'll find images of some things that worked for us and some other ideas I gathered from around the web.
Let's start with the party invitations. We didn't have time to send these, but you can find plenty of wording ideas right here:

Decorate with maps.
Same way with Globes.
Use them as a table centerpiece.
Say it with food.
Use balloons... Hot Air balloons will bring the traveling message.
Most importantly, have lots of fun and let that special person(s) in your life know that you love and care for them no matter where in the world they might be.

It's a Going Away Party... You need suitcases! :)
For decor...
Or for displaying food!
One of my all-time favorite ways to decorate a room is by using inexpensive banners ...
Decorate your room or table by using paper in your colors of choice.

Ask guests to write something about the guest of honor.

Say it with food.
Use balloons... Hot Air balloons will bring the traveling message.
Regular balloons are a sure hit in any party!

It was a great party. Loved the decorations and the ways all the food was displayed. Even made store bought cupcakes look fantastic. Can't wait for the next one. You and Pilar are so talented. Love your parties.
ReplyDeleteAwww Thanks so much Carol. It was so nice to see you again. We have to meet more frequently!
DeleteAs a history buff, I love the globe decor (& as a way to leave messages!) A dear friend of mine did a globe as her guest book at her wedding and I thought that was great as well!

So many fun ideas. I'm sorry your sister is moving so far away, though. Hopefully this is the beginning of a wonderful adventure for her!
