According to Wikipedia, Shiplap is a type of wooden board that is commonly used in the construction of barns, sheds, outbuildings, and inexpensive or seasonal homes.
Well, this horizontal style of wood paneling it's the hot wall treatment right now, thanks to the popularity of HGTV's Fixer Upper, where Chip and Joanna Gaines use it in almost every room they transform.
And nope, shiplap is not only used in inexpensive or seasonal homes any longer. It's been used in almost any type of decorating style and budget.
I've been gathering ideas for when the time comes to renovate my bathroom, I got obsessed with shiplap walls. I'm loving how well it goes with just about any style.
C'mon, look how well all these bathrooms sport the shiplap treatment! Ah- mazing!
Most of these bathroom makeovers have a complete shiplap installation tutorial. Click the link below each picture to visit each space and to learn about the transformation.

ReplyDeleteThese are such beautiful bathrooms Cristina. I would love any of them! I shiplapped a small ceiling, and after seeing how easy that was, I'm dying to do some walls. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your bathroom eventually!
ReplyDeleteI love shiplap in bathrooms! Shiplap has a coastal feel to me (I first saw shiplap in an 1800s lowcountry house) which is always a nice touch in the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteWe are almost done with our guest bathroom and many of these images were my inspiration. My husband is doing the bathroom himself and he added shiplap in the entire room for me! I'm inlove with it!
ReplyDeleteI can say for 100% that I need more shiplap in my life! These are great picks!

I have 2 very small bathrooms to renovate at our cottage. I love all the pics of these shiplap bathrooms. I'm wondering what you used for the shiplap in these bathrooms. Was it tongue and groove or planks? Was it wood or was it MDF? I've heard that its not a good idea to put MDF in bathrooms because of the moisture. How thick were the shiplap boards? Any help or info would be much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteMost of these bathrooms have their own tutorial and links to the products they used. You should visit each of those projects to find out the kind of shiplap they used.
DeleteYou're right about the MDF not being a good idea for a bathroom. I'm just starting to work on my bath project and I'm going to use a new shiplap product -primed pine- from the Home Depot.
