DIY Scrap Wood Cart

Hi friends,

I've been here, in the garage, trying to get it organized so I can be more productive. All the pieces of wood laying on the floor were driving me crazy (picture below).

My first solution to that problem: Build a cart to store all those remnants.

Thanks so much for all the input you have given me, armed with it and some ideas found online that I shared with you on my 20 Scrap Wood Storage Holders You Can DIY, I went ahead to build my own.

I followed this project shared by Jerry over at LumberJocks, but I modified it a bit because it's too big for my space.
Their cart is done with two plywood sheets. I only bought one  ¾" plywood sheet and used scrap pieces to complete the cart.

These are the main pieces taken out from the sheet of plywood: Base and two divisions.

Did I tell you I got new tools? Yeah, I'm loving them! This project was mainly tackled with the Ryobi 7¼ Circular Saw and the Ryobi drill/driver. What a huge difference they made. :)

The first part was to add wheels to the base of the cart. I bought a mover's dolly, price-wise, it was more convenient for getting the casters. I went the lazy way, cutting them off the dolly and attaching them to the underneath of my base with glue and screws.

Then, it was time to put the puzzle together with Kreg jig joinery. The two main divisions...

The scrap triangles left from the sheet of plywood were perfect to create the small bin divisions.

I was happy to use lots of pieces from my scrap pile. ;)

As soon as I finished building it, I began filling it up.

I like the back compartment to store sheets of wood. I usually buy what I'm going to use, but there are always leftover pieces that take up wall space. Now, they're nicely tucked in here.

I'm gonna try not to pack it with tons of stuff... As my blogging friend Julie stated, the casters are the first ones to give up for overloading it. I really like that I can move it around.

This is like a small victory against this giant monster. :)
I still have some long pieces of molding that need a proper space, organize the tools, the shelves on the other side of the garage and well, organize, organize, organize.
