It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
Yes, it does!
Last week I was a little elf, working all around, trying to get my home ready for this week.
Yeah, it's Christmas home tour week.
But, I'll talk about that in a bit, because right now I just want to let you know how easy and inexpensive these luminaries turned out to be! I think they make perfect gifts. ;)

This is a project I've seen many times on Pinterest but haven't given a try because I didn't have the supplies, more exactly the Epsom salts.
My son was doing a soap experiment about a month ago and I bought a big bag of Epsom salts. Well, he only used a small amount...
So, while in the middle of my decorating frenzy and not knowing what kind of centerpiece to add to the dining table, I remembered the luminaries and the Epsom salt and of course...
It was time to work on those.
I went throughout the house collecting glass jars... Hmmm, and I got a good bunch!
The materials you'll need:
You only need to apply the Mod Podge to the outside of the jars. I did it using a medium size paintbrush.
As soon as you're done applying the Mod podge, roll the jar onto the Epsom salts.
It goes FAST!
I made more than 20 jars in 30 minutes and I only used one of those $1 Mod Podge containers for all of them.
I let them dry for about an hour, but even before the hour mark, they were already dry.
Some clippings from the yard were also added...
Jute rope... And they were mounted on a cake stand as a centerpiece.

Deletethis is really a fun make...Epsom salts what a great idea...I remember using old Ivory Snow flakes---onceuponatime... for a similar idea, circa 1956 or so. Cute, think I still have some in the basement (Epsom) was used to defloculate(smooth out)glazes in my old pottery business. Thanks for the idea, Sandi
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandi! It's a similar idea, every era bring its own products. ;) Ha, good to know I can use Epsom salts to thin out glazes, thanks!

ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Wonderful idea. My daughter was just researching for DYI Christmas project - they have a class assignment and I will show it to her. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteEpsom salts, not Epson, like the printer name.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteWhat a wonderful, easy project. They are lovely, I will try these for sure this holiday season. Just a question.. does the epsom salt seem to flake off after dry? Wondering if a clear glaze of something would help.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carolynn! Yes, they do flake a little, but don't be afraid to make them, the little specks that fall off are in fact minute compared to how pretty they are.
DeleteI seal mine with spray modpodge when I use glitter, it will prob work for these as well I would assume
