Summer Home Tour

Hi guys! I'm so excited to be part of this year's Summer Home Tour put together by my sweet blogging friend Marty from A Stroll Thru Life!

So, let me introduce myself to all of you new to Remodelando la Casa. Well, the Spanish name of my blog summarizes everything I keep on doing: Updating and renovating my builder's grade home one step at a time, lots of DIY, combined with a bit of decor and crafts with some re-purposing thrown in the mix to keep things on budget. ;)

It is a small house; once you pass the front door, you end up in the living room. I keep on having fun with this old window gallery wall. It pretty much changes with the seasons. This time, I went for coastal decor all around the house; the gallery is my representation of the sea.

Galvanized buckets full of tulips create a striking contrast. Did you notice the difference in the blooms? The picture above was taken one day before the one below; only one day makes a huge difference!



We can continue straight through the narrow hall onto the kitchen from the main door.

The builder's basic kitchen was taken care of long ago, but for the past month, I've been here again, refreshing it as needed, painting the kitchen island a brighter color, and making some other minor changes.

It now looks so bright! 

I know you're noticing the new window shade, but how can you skip changing it if it's so easy? This time, I used a Target tablecloth. You can see how to do it right here.

The only place in the kitchen where I can add some decor is on the island. However, I choose to display fruits and vegetables so the kids have them right at hand. 

The rosemary has been here since last Summer, the only one of my herb garden plants to survive.

We can walk past the right side of the fridge to the dining room.

A coastal tablescape is set up. The sea shells we collected on our beach trips are the bed of the bottle centerpiece. I even made wooden placemats to add to the coastal feel.

The last door I removed from my kitchen cabinets is the centerpiece tray.

The family room is the hot spot in our home. It adjoins the kitchen and breakfast area. We spend most of our time here, and that's precisely why I keep updating my mantel; we all enjoy it. 

This time, I went for a crabby crab mantel. :)

Above the sofa is one of my creations: chalkboard art. I believe everyone should have a movable chalkboard in their home—it means instant art! 

I had it in the dining room, and it also looks very OK here.

These shelves still sport the same background I gave them long ago.

In my bedroom, the bookcases were the ones to get a bit of Summer decor.

Small old bottles, sea creatures, and even a bike were mixed in with the books.

My room is still a work in progress. The wooden beams and bookcase were done long ago, but I'm still waiting and saving to get rid of the carpet.

Each bookcase was topped off with a sailboat. If you still need to do these little boats, I urge you to try.

They are easy! 

I made them in no time after I found the supplies: one chunky and one narrow stick from the yard and drop cloth pieces.

I made a switcheroo with the mirror  I had in the guest room for this mantel. If you have followed me for a while, you probably remember it was a tabletop.

Let's now go to my daughter's room. I asked her to make the bed, and this is not exactly how she made it. I had to go and give her a helping hand, so I changed her headboard display at the same time. She was thrilled with the changes.

The room has had the same navy blue wall since the main makeover a couple of years ago, and she doesn't want to change it yet.

Finally, the guest room. This year, this is my patriotic room. It already has lots of red and white, which makes it easy to dress up in the colors of the flag. I'm probably going to do another post highlighting this room.
