Stop Google from Turning your Pictures Darker

Hi Friends,

This is not one of my regular posts, but is something so helpful that I want to share it with you. Well, that is if you have a Blogger blog, if not, it is OK, you can skip this post.

I was working on the pictures of my last project, the Easter egg tree. As I told you in a previous post, cutting the pictures, making them lighter and adding some titles. They were saved and uploaded to the blog, but they looked dark!

I went back to the editing program made them a bit lighter and uploaded them again... Still dark :(

I even took new pictures thinking maybe the background needed more light... Uploaded them and left them like that, they still looked dark to me.

When I saw the picture of my project featured at TaterTots and Jello I knew the color wasn't right! That's when I decided to investigate the why.

My problem was due to a new feature added to all of our Google accounts, as usual, Google changing things whether we like them or not!

It is called the Auto Enhance, and as they say: "It makes subtle adjustments to help your pictures look great"! Well, not mine :(  It has been turned on by default for all Blogger blogs.

If you don't have an editing program maybe this is something that can help you, it removes red-eye and improves lightening in really dark pictures, but if you use an editing program, it would be better for you to turn it off.

This is how to turn off the Auto Enhancing feature:

1. Open Google +
2. Place your cursor over the Google + Home menu near the top left corner. Click Settings.

3. Scroll down to the Photos and Videos section and make a click on the OFF Auto Enhance.

Well, that was a quick solution to my problem, but I still have another issue with Blogger that I haven't found a way to fix! Maybe you can help me with it:

When I leave a comment on some Word Press blogs, after I hit the publish button, the page refreshes but my comment FUFF disappears! It is very dissapointing! Some how it happens with big sites like Miss Mustard Seed, TaterTots and Jello, Pretty Handy Girl, The inspired Room, It All Started with Paint, Between Naps on the Porch... and who knows how many more! I have checked my settings up and down, back  and forth, and nothing! Please do let me know if you have any idea why this may be happening!

Thanks in advance!

:)

  5. Brilliant!! Thanks so much for sharing!! This was happening to me the other day and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why! For me, instead of making it darker, it was brightening the photo making it look washed out. Ugh! I just went and fixed my settings, so THANK-YOU!!

  6. Definitely worth sharing, so I PIN'd it!! Excellent post, thank you!! I hate it when they darken but love it when they added the Christmas lights on my holiday posts. It's definitely a love/hate relationship with Google....

  23. Thank you! And I couldn't figure out the auto-awesome thing either. I had uploaded a photo that included Christmas lights and it made them twinkle! Cool, I suppose, but I had no idea how to make it stop so I ended up hosting that photo elsewhere. All turned off, now!

  25. I was not signed up for Google + but it darkened my photos anyways. Seems I had to "upgrade" to Google + to be able to edit the settings? Which I have done, reloaded my post and photos are still dark....grrr!!
