DIY - Jean Hexagon Pillow

Ombre effect pillow cover
I've been upcycling all those jeans that had gotten damaged, and the ones that my kids can't fit in any longer. The big stash I had it's getting lower with the projects I've been creating with them. Take a look at this beach pillow right here. Or these tags and garland-backdrop. And here it comes this gorgeous ombre jean hexagon pillow, the latest old-jean project that I'm happy to share with you today.

If you are into sewing and love to use jeans, you probably have all the needed materials for this 20 x 20 pillow cover. Let me show you how you can create your very own.

The materials you'll need:

Directions:

1. TRACE THE HEXAGON PATTERN

The first thing to do is to use the scissors to cut the jeans wide open all along the inner seams.
Place the hexagon pattern on the wrong side of the jean and trace as many hexagons as you want.

You need to get jean hexagons in many different shades of blue if you're going for the ombre effect. Even white ones. I got the white jean at a thrift store. ;)

2. ARRANGE THE HEXAGONS

Play with the shades of blue on those hexagons. I cut the main drop cloth into three sections @ 17", 21" and 12"
The 21" square piece of fabric is the one you need to cover with hexagons.

3. IRON IT

Once you're happy with your design, iron the hexagons, right there, on top of the drop cloth.

4. GLUE THE HEXAGONS IN PLACE

If you're good at sewing, probably the only thing you need to do is to pin those hexagons to the drop cloth and head to the sewing machine to set them in place.

Well, I'm not that good of a seamstress. Better safe than sorry on this one. ;)
I used fabric glue to keep those hexagons from moving while sewing them onto the white cover.

5. SEW THE HEXAGONS TO THE COVER FABRIC

Go all-around every single hexagon, using the same color of thread as the color of each hexagon.
Trim the excess jean fabric.

6. MAKE THE ENVELOPE STYLE COVER

Assemble the cover by bringing the two remaining pieces of drop cloth (picture below) and stitch all along the four sides with 1/2" seam allowance (dotted line).

7. ENJOY IT!

Turn the pillow cover right side out and insert your pillow form.
