Building Bookcases for Bedroom - Part 1

I've been absent for a whole week, I wish I could say I was vacationing, or taking time to relax and re-invigorate, but no, big NO!   I was working really hard.

As soon as I finished installing the beams on the ceiling, I began working on the bookcases.  Two bookcases with a fireplace in between them.  This is the wall I chose, in between the two windows.  For my inspiration pics, click HERE.

All this week I was trying to finish them up, my husband happened to be traveling and I wanted to surprise him with the shelves all done.  But no, It didn't happened.  Anyway he was impressed with my progress.  

Trying to finish that project was not the only thing I was doing, since I transformed our bedroom into my own shop, the whole room was full of tools, pieces of wood, and lots of dust.   All day Monday was dedicated to clean the room and Tuesday to clean the whole house before he arrived on Wednesday.   Fuff, it was exhausting!

OK no more complaining.  Let's talk about the bookcases.  First thing, removing the baseboard on that wall. 

Then, grabbing the biggest folders he uses, as a guide for the final measurement, I decided to build them at 12" deep without frame.  The carpet and pad were then removed.

I'm not good making my designs in the computer, I need to learn one of those programs, I simply drew lines on the wall to visualize how they would look.

I got 3/4" plywood cut to my dimensions at Lowes.  I usually buy trim and stock wood at a lumber center but for whole sheets of plywood or MDF where I need multiple cuts I go to the big stores, they don't charge the six bucks per cut the lumber center does!

Using a circular saw I cut the shelves and supports, then I drilled the holes for the adjustable shelves and put the whole thing together using Kreg tools at its best!

¼" plywood for the back and they were ready to be installed.

Making sure they were level, they were screwed to the studs on the wall.

Two simple carcasses were now standing there and I couldn't wait to continue dressing them up!

All this part was kind of easy, drilling the holes for the adjustable shelves was the only thing that was a bit boring after a while.
