Visitors arrived and my outings are on the rise.
With three kids in tow, I headed to Glen Echo Park. It never disappoints my kids, besides is a short ride from home.
What my kids always look for is riding the 1921 Dentzel Carousel with 38 horses, 4 ostriches, 4 rabbits, 2 chariots, a giraffe, a lion, a deer, and a tiger.
This is a vintage carousel made by one of America's most prominent carousel makers, the Dentzel carousel company, and the only one of its age and quality remaining in its original location.
It is truly a work of art!
The band organ sets the tunes for the carousel.
Also known as the Glen Eco Amusement Park, which operated until the late 1960's. The bumper car pavilion is now used as a dance hall.
For more information about the park you can visit their web site HERE.
What a wonderful old carousel, Cristina! Does it have the arm where you can grab the gold ring? There is a very similar carousel in Eldrich Park in Elmira, NY. It was so much fun when I was young to go there. Have a wonderful Sunday with your family, sweet girl- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWe love Glen Echo too! We also love Cabin John which we just discovered. Great little train ride there.
ReplyDeleteThe park is so much fun. Photography classes....pottery....dancing and folklore festivals. It is one of the reasons I sell so many houses in the area. More photos at www.eleanorbalaban.com
ReplyDeleteOh what a fabulous carousel. I love them and havn't seen one in a long time. Such a fabulous park, no wonder the children love it. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteIt has been a while since we have taken a ride on a carousel and probably will not this summer. This is a magnificent piece - so much history. Enjoy your guests and time with the kids!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I will ever be too old to ride a carousel. That one is a beauty.
