Hi Friends,
It took me forever to finish this room. Well, it seems so!
After more than six months of hard work, I'm so happy to finally show you the end result.
The building part was finished in December, and my son moved in immediately, but I kept on working on the decor.
It took me so long because some of the items I ordered, such as the main lighting, took weeks to arrive.
The other item that didn't arrive was a roman shade for the window, but I just couldn't hold the reveal any longer.
So, let's get started! I'll give you links to all the projects tackled in this room at the end of this post.
Here is how the room looks while standing at the door. Yeah, the window is right across and it was a beautiful sunny day.

The carpet is one set of modular carpet tiles I already had. I don't think they sell this design any longer but you can find many others right HERE.
As I said in a previous post, my son loves his bed, it's comfy, warm, and stylish. It's so nice to see him spending lots of time in his new room.
The letter M is such a big statement, that's an easy DIY project where a good stash of googly eyes came in handy.
The white brick wall treatment was achieved with paper, or wallpaper, peel & stick wallpaper, which is definitely very easy to install. I bought it HERE.
My son's favorite color is red, that's why you see that color sprinkled all around the room.
The decorative pillow sports the logo of his latest computer game obsession: Rocket League - another DIY project -.
I wanted to give the room an old vintage look but in a modern way. Some of the items on the shelves show that vintage, industrial vibe.
I found these big old bulbs and the Edison print above the bed at Sweet Clover.
The clocks came back to the shelves after the rusty paint treatment.
On the other side of the bed, is the desk, with plenty of storage. I still need to make the inside of the drawers a bit pretty, most of them are still empty, hence the blank labels.
As you can see, he really likes Rocket League, the sign is another project he's loving!
The bookends were done with the piece of wood cut off the sliding door - Remember we had to trim the door to make it fit? Well, that extra piece came in handy here. The one on the right is holding the vintage rolling mechanism the door had. I was sad it came with only one. :(
This is the view when looking from the closet. Did I tell you this is a small room? It was hard to take full pictures of it.
Lighting is such an important part of the design of a room. All the areas in this space are well-lit!

The closet, the first project done in this room, is working really well. Here again, he has some empty drawers.
The small step stool can be pulled to the closet when he needs to reach the top shelves, he can also use it to put on his shoes or to hold stuff.
Finally, a vintage target, a gift from one of our friends to my son a couple years ago, adorns so well the sliding door.
That's pretty much all of it. But. I couldn't leave you without the before and after. This is how the room looked right before starting the work.
The after:
This is how the room looks decorated for Fall and with the owner enjoying it. ;)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful transformation! I love the trim around the window. Did you tackle that yourself as well?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Ana! Yep, the trim was also a DIY project. It's very similar to the one done for the windows in my room, you can find that tutorial here: http://goo.gl/SxEXS3.
DeleteThe only thing I changed this time was that I brought it all the way to the ceiling and I'm liking it better this way.
Great, thank you!!
DeleteI love it! The colors are great, and the industrial vibe! Good job, I already pinned it!!
ReplyDeleteDear Christina ~ You have done a truly spectacular job on your son's room. It is amazing! I'am sure that even seasoned carpenters or designers could not improve on any aspect of this room. And the tutorials you have created to go along with it are not only inspirational, but so easy to follow that I will be greatly surprised if aspects of the room do not show up on the web, very soon. I have been so greatly impressed and inspired by all of your projects, and the information I have learned from you is deeply appreciated. You are gifted with a talent for reducing difficult and complex projects to such simple, basic steps that anyone can follow to achieve beautiful results. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful projects and expertise with all of us DIYs. I can't wait to see what new project you come up with!! My Best to you, Tennessee
ReplyDeleteWow Tennessee, all I can say is THANK YOU, thank you very much for all your kind words!

ReplyDeleteWOW OH WOW Cristina you have done it again!!!! You should be hired out to do this work. You are so good and the design and the construction. Love it all especially the sliding door.
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job! I'm in love with the Edison light bulb print...that is one lucky guy!
ReplyDeleteCristina....the entire room is AMAZING!!!! Your son will love it. My question...where did you send you son for a week so you could get it to be this clean and tidy long enough to get pictures...lol!!!! Seriously, I have NO doubt he will love this space. ALL of my kiddos are gone now but they come back and when they do they want "their" room just the way they left it. Cherish these years! Oh, and cherish these pictures... maybe the last time it looks like something out of a magazine. But that is okay...clean rooms is one of my "pick your battles" things...lol! Good work as always!
ReplyDeleteThanks Beck! :) He'd been out of his room for the entire reno. Crossing my fingers for it to stay somewhat presentable at least for a month! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteCristina - You KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK! I adore every nook and cranny. It's great. So much personality without being completely over the top. It's perfect. I pinned like every picture :)
ReplyDeleteWow - this room really is amazing! I love every single detail but I think the lighting just might be my favorite! He must be so excited and I am sure you are every time you walk in there. Boys rooms can be so hard...It should be in a magazine! My 9 year old son needs a makeover in his room and I am taking notes.
ReplyDeleteShelley

ReplyDeleteI have to admit it happened to me in the pre-blogging days, Gina! Somehow I didn't finish my projects. One of the good things about blogging, it pushes us to take care of all those little details. Thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDeletehe he he this room has definitely many eyes on it! Beginning with my daughter who was trying to make the desk her new work area! Of course, teenage boy was not happy and asked her to leave immediately! :D
DeleteThanks Lisa!
This room is incredible! Your son must love you for creating this new space for him. I love the lighting, and the brick wall and the closet is just great. The built-ins are so nice, and must really help keep things tidy in there. Gosh, my 17-year old son would love something like this. I really need to redo his room as he hasn't had a change since he was about 10! Thanks for sharing all your hard work, you outdid yourself!
ReplyDeleteWendy
This is truly amazing. What a fabulous room! PERFECTION! We would love to have you share at The DIY Collective! We are live now! Our viewers would LOVE this! http://www.re-fabbed.com
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! What are the wall and bookcase paint colors?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! All the colors/paints used are listed on the Source List post. Here is the link: http://www.remodelandolacasa.com/2016/02/teyrmsce.html
DeleteWhat an amazing room! I have been wanting to do something like this in our master bedroom. Thank you for sharing so many details and links. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeletewhere did you get the bed?
ReplyDeleteAmazon... You can check the source list post for a direct link.
DeleteThis is amazing!! your daughters room and your sons room are my favorite rooms in all of the blogger designed rooms.. I visit your website often and dream of building something similar for my kids one day. You are so talented and creative.
ReplyDeleteAwww Liz, Thanks so much for your kind words and for sticking with me throughout all the crazy and not so crazy re-dos I keep getting myself into! My kids really like their rooms. Hmmm I think it's now time for me to go and finish mine. Let's start with something small!
DeleteWhere is the flush mount ceiling light from? Also are the wall caged industrial lights hardwired? On the site you provided it said they are ac powered.. Not sure if that means hardwire? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Beth, all those fixtures are hardwired.
DeleteSo very interested in the plywood flooring. How has it held up? I see with the completed project there is not much walking room so very little traffic. I would like to do my entire house with the plywood but not sure it would hold up as we have kiddos and lots of traffic.
ReplyDeleteThe plywood floors still look like new. I like them, but you're right, there's not much traffic in this room and the carpet also protects them. As I said before, I don't recommend this type of flooring for high traffic areas unless you don't mind lots of scratches and dents on your floors.
ReplyDeleteReally love this room! Can you tell me where your got all the bedding?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! You can find all that info here: http://www.remodelandolacasa.com/2016/02/teyrmsce.html
DeleteThis is awesome. Could you tell me where you got the card catalog looking 9 drawer organizer on the bookshelf with the globe on it? This would be perfect for my son's hockey cards. I love this room!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lori! I found that organizer at HomeGoods.
