Number one rule: Cleanliness
Whether you give your house a full pressure wash or simply clean the door, the steps, and/or the walkway, a clean front entrance speaks volumes about you and your home.
Three years ago, my steps looked like the ones in the left picture below. I gave them a really good wash, and since then, I haven't touched them.
You can check how they were treated to remove dirt and rust from concrete right HERE.
Here, you can see the difference between a rusted and a shiny metal railing.
2. PAINT THE FRONT DOOR
There is nothing like a fresh coat of paint to create a welcoming entryway into your house. Give the front door a new coat of paint, and remember to paint the shutters and porch railings if they show the passing of time like mine did.

3. UPDATE OR REPLACE OLD HARDWARE
Simple details, such as replacing dated fixtures or perhaps giving them a coat of paint, will provide a more cohesive look.
I'm changing the color of the numbers on my house. I think black will be the most appropriate color for them.

4. BRING ACCENT PIECES TO THE FRONT
PORCH
A pair of planters flanking the door, a welcoming mat, and perhaps some other decorative accents will give your home that happy-go-lucky appeal.
5. KEEP ALL GREEN TRIMMED
Yes, by green, I mean the grass, the bushes, and even the trees you might have. Cut the grass regularly, and I think it is always a great idea to give it a sharp edge.
6. PLANT FLOWERS
Plant some annual flowers to add a quick, vibrant color to your yard.
8. HANG A WREATH on your front door
7. INSTALL OUTDOOR LIGHTING

As I told you before, the list can be long, but remember that the most important thing is to fix anything that's damaged or broken and keep it clean!

ReplyDeletePlant evergreen foundation plants (like boxwood) and then add flowers. Gives a crisp, timeless look. Keep the walkway and the front porch or stoop clean and free of debris (e.g. fallen leaves).
ReplyDeleteLooks very nice...good ideas!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips, it pays to tidy up. One of the reasons I like working outside is little things go a LONG way and your tips are sure to put a smile on a homeowner's face every time they come home. I have some vines that climb on my entry deck and they soften the harsh lines.
ReplyDeleteWonderful tips! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteClean up debris. I have a major problem with sticks, twigs, leaves etc. with all the trees I have. The leaves always seem to blow up towards the house. Keep things updated and painted. Our deck need to be cleaned and re-stained right now. Also trim around windows and the garage doors needs to be painted.
