I know, time flies!
More surprisingly, posting about my Summer mantel this late, though I love it.
This is exactly what I would like to do right now...
I was happy with Gloria, remember the rabbit on my last Easter mantel? You can see it right HERE.
Gloria didn't look right any longer, but it was OK for me until I saw this ship wheel at T.J.Max and couldn't resist buying it ($15). At the store, it looked huge, but when I hung it on the mantel, it looked puny :/
So, I looked for one of my display boards to beef it up.

This tree branch was used for one of my past Fall mantels. The size was perfect, but that tree and landscape had to go.
After the two coats of white paint had dried, washi tape was cut lengthwise to make thin white lines.
Using acrylic paints (dark blue, light blue, and white), the three lower sections were first painted the darkest blue. Add plenty of water to your brush.

Then, the two top sections blend in some more white/light blue.
Just the same for the remaining sections until is all done. Remove the tape.
With the wheel in place and the printed and glued-on "Sail Away" words, the main art project was finished.
The font I used is "Always in My Heart."
A starfish garland was put together with some Sea Star Figurines I found at Target a couple months ago.
Shells from some of our Summer vacation trips to the beach, a blue fish bottle my son brought me from one of his school trips to the Chesapeake Bay...
Sail away, and have fun!

I love how it turned out, glad you didn't give up when it wasn't working out!
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous! I love what you did with the wheel.
ReplyDeleteWell, now it looks just perfect. Love the whole look.
ReplyDeleteGreat summer mantel! I've often wondered if I could make a ship wheel with dowels and wood, but for only $15... why?
ReplyDeleteCristina, beautiful as always. I struggle to decorate my mantel for fall and Christmas...Now I feel like I need to do something awesome with it year round...curses...lol! Naaaaa...I'll just admire yours! I have two mantels...one in my den and one in my bedroom...too much work! I love the look and the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh I feel like I am on a beach when I look at your mantel!
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect! I should borrow your mantle for my Summer Coastal Living room Cristina! hahaha! Love the fish bottle and that huge wooden wheel art! Super fun and just right for this season!
ReplyDeleteHola Ceistina ! Me encanta ese ambiente marinó que has puesto arriba de tu chimenea !
ReplyDeleteWow. This screams summer and I love everything about it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice -- It's hard to beat T.J. Maxx or Home Goods for home decor deals. I just finished decorating my bathroom in a beach theme and now fall is coming - but I could do beach theme all year long.
