I've been cleaning and organizing my garage one step at a time. You already saw the mini-mudroom created just steps off the laundry room. I'm delighted with it. We now have a spot to take off our shoes before entering the house.
Today's project is on the opposite side of the garage, the entrance.

The picture below shows the problem corner. This is what happened to some of the objects in the image:
- The table is one project I need to tackle soon because I keep moving it around depending on what I'm working on.
- The sled was taken to the backyard and hung on the fence as a decoration.
- The water hose also went to the backyard.
What bothered me the most was the pile of tools in that little corner. The snow shovels we used so many times this past Winter were still there, a nuisance every time I went to get an extension cord.
It was time to give them their proper place by installing a wall storage system.
Before installing my new Rubbermaid FastTrack 5-piece kit, I gave the wall a coat of white paint, which was the hardest part. However, installing the system was very easy!

You just need to find the studs on the wall using a stud finder or, my favorite way, with a nail and hammer, marking the edges of the stud. Mark two more studs; they must be 16" apart from the one already found.
Once you have your marks on the wall, get a level and trace a line where you want your system to be installed (minimum height of 4').

Bring your FastTrack rail and mark the top and bottom holes over the studs. Drill 1/8" pilot holes in each mark before using the provided screws to mount the rail on the wall.
The kit also comes with a set of anchors and screws to be placed in between the studs.
Oh, I found another paint remnant to create a more stylish display. The green paint will camouflage the dirt from the tools better than white paint. ;)
That's all it is. As soon as the rail is installed, you can slide on the cover and hang the Multi-Purpose hook, the one-handle hook, and the two scoop hooks the kit comes with.
This is how it looks now.
What I love the most about this system, besides the easy install, are the movable hooks.
Right now, I'm not taking advantage of this feature, but it will come in handy when I install more of these systems underneath and on the sides later.
Don't you think it looks pretty neat?!

ReplyDeleteMy shed is on my neverending list of things to do. Although this year it is really getting an overhaul, shelves, benches, hangers, hooks, a place for everything and everything in its place!!! At least I hope it's this year's project... sigh.
ReplyDeleteLove your cleaned up space!
I have some hooks in my shed as I don't have a garage, but every year I have to clear it out and put it all back again, it never seems to stay very tidy.
ReplyDeleteYou always make such great changes, I love your mini mudroom.
Wonderful. Now I just need to get my garage clean enough that I can do this. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me.
