I was at the fabric store the other day looking for fabrics to make curtains for my bedroom, I didn't find the perfect one but I couldn't stop going around the store checking all the fabrics until I found one that I love, well, not for the curtains, but my mind immediately put the pretty designs of the "A new leaf meadow" fabric onto a pair of pillows ;)
I've already told you how much I love envelope pillows, no need for zippers or closures, easy to change and wash, so that's what I made, a couple of envelope pillows.
The pillows I have around the house are 17" x 17", I already memorized the dimensions of how much fabric I need for an envelope --> 40" x 18", as shown in the picture below.
Since I only bought a yard of the pretty -A new leaf meadow- fabric (I didn't want to spend more than $10), I created the pillow out of drop cloth material I already had, and use the pretty fabric only on the front of the pillow.
Both ends were hemmed.
The drop cloth material was cut in three parts, the front and the two back pieces. one extra inch was given to its total length, instead of 40", it was cut at 41" for the extra seams. A piece of the decorative fabric was added to the center or front part.
Both fabrics were stitched together following some of the designs, this is not a necessity, only one piece of fabric can be used, but the two layers give the pillow more structure ;)
Finally, you need to sew it all around, right sides facing each other.
Trim excess and bring the inside out.
They are now looking good on my new fabric painted chairs :)
Again, trying to bring Spring into my home, I cannot believe it was snowing yesterday!
Check how the pillows and painted chairs make a good frame for the Spring mantel HERE.
Have a wonderful week!
Olá Cristina, trabalho perfeito!

Great fabric and wonderful tutorial.
ReplyDeleteCristina, I love the fabric you chose to cover your pillow. I did a tutorial for an envelope pillow awhile back to replace some really worn ones but I used all the same fabric....and it was expensive. So, the next time I make some I'll use only the good fabric for the front! Thanks!
