Last weekend we picked our latest Craiglist find, a nice hutch. I like some of its features, the fact that is a strong piece of furniture, and the best part: that it was free. Thanks to Kevin and his family. They got it for free and were upgrading, so they gave it for free too ;)
Among the things I like about it are these corner posts and until certain point its feet, though I wish it has simpler lines.
I'm not crazy about the doors or the top scalloped detail, again, I prefer straight lines.
The same sentiment goes for its top part. I'm going for no doors, so I'm already thinking how they can be re purposed.
Of course, I'm going to paint it, but some modifications are going to be made.
This is the space where the "new hutch" will be placed. It is going to replaced the left bookcase in the family room. That corner is always full of staff the kids just dump stuff into, like their instruments or shoes. These two bookcases can be put together on the right side. I'm glad I'm going to have lots of storage space :)
The only thing driving me crazy is I cannot work on this piece as fast as I want! Yesterday I began taking the doors off and dusting it, but it was freezing cold. The temperatures have been so cold is kind of impossible to work in the garage right now. :( And tomorrow is going to snow again!
This is another baby that is waiting patiently for a makeover. That top needs a really good sanding.
Or how about this desk, another Cl find for only $20. If you follow me on Facebook, you'd probably seen this pic already. It's going to be in my bedroom, but I cannot work on it until the temperatures go up.
I think I have a clear picture of what I want for the hutch and the desk, but any ideas are welcome, especially for the table and the hutch doors.
Update: You can check the hutch makeover right HERE.
Thanks!

I know what you mean about the snow and cold.....will it ever end? How exciting to have so many great finds! I can hardly wait to see what you do with all of them.
ReplyDeleteIt's super cold here in NY too... so I've been working on projects inside the house.
ReplyDeleteToo many apparently.
The other week my son had a friend over who stopped, mid Nerf-Gun Chase to ask, 'Are you hoarders?'
:X
How exciting! I know you will make them look fabulous! Free is the best! Those doors are awesome they will make a great repurpose, chalkboards are an easy bet, maybe all for doors used for some fun art, covering the glass, you know one picture broken into for parts? Maybe that doesn't make sense....anyway...I can't wait to see what you do! And if I were you I would set up a huge drop cloth and work in the house, that is what I do in the winter, I hate the cold!!
ReplyDeleteI think you already have the right idea for these pieces Cristina, you just have to wait for the weather to give you a break! Can't wait to see it all done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous piece! And, free!!!! I can't wait to see what you do with it!
